Portland Voter Guide

Client:
Empirical Media & Portland Voter Guide PAC

Where:
Portland, Oregon

A voter guide designed for a coalition of BIPOC+ community groups in Portland, Oregon.

The coalition was made up of groups including Latino Network Action Fund, Oregon Futures Lab, Sierra Club Oregon Chapter, Building Power for Communities of Color, and Next Up.

The organizations wanted a voter guide that felt authentic, bold, and trustworthy while rejecting conservatism and fear. It was important that the design was community-oriented and focused on beloved local landmarks.

In collaboration with Empirical Media, I designed the logo, branding, and website. The branding included original illustrations of Portlanders to capture the community’s energy.

2024 was the first year that Portlanders used ranked choice voting, so it was crucial that the guide accurately explained ranked choice and the importance of not ranking far-candidates.

The guide allowed voters to navigate to different races for their respective districts, see endorsements, read and short blurb, or take a deeper dive into each candidate.

I designed quick guides" for each Portland district, providing concise voter info and directing voters back to the full guide.
